| Slugging It Out
I see lots of people enthusiastic about my candidacy strongly supporting me. But that's the way the campaign goes. I know there are lots of undecideds. This is a fluid campaign; one guy won Iowa, another won New Hampshire. I think we'll have a new winner in South Carolina. I see McCain moving ahead, and Giuliani falling back. But the state is tailor-made for a consistent conservative. I'm just out there telling the people the truth about important issues. Rob Bluey: Are you following the debate over earmarks in Washington? As president, would you issue an executive order to disregard non-mandatory earmarks in appropriations reports? Thompson: Yes, yes. The earmarks are not part of the legislation. If they are not debated and voted up and down, they're not part of the law.
Police dogs' duty more dangerous
In San Diego County, the last police dog to die in the line of duty before Stryker was Urk, a Sheriff's Department dog who was gunned down in January 2003. His handler was responding to a call that shots had been fired when someone shot at the squad car, killing the dog. The shooter, Robert Quintero, was found guilty of attempted murder of the deputy and sentenced to life in prison. The dog's heroic action – he tried to go after the gunman despite being shot – was noted during the sentencing hearing. The maximum sentence for killing a police dog is three years. The San Diego Police Department's dogs have had their share of injuries, too. In 2002, a man with a knife nearly sliced off the ear of a police dog named Gino. The wound required nearly 100 stitches.
One Woman's World
I would get disoriented in downtown traffic and have to pull my car over until the anxiety and the trembling ceased. I became reclusive, cancelled endless lunches with friends. I avoided commitments and responsibilities. Facial tics, shaking hands, mild memory loss and a blunted brain became a part of my grey days. I stopped writing, stopped rejoicing in a sunrise and, more importantly, I stopped being a loving and involved parent to Leah, the delightful child that blessed my life. One morning I looked down on the sleeping form of that incomparable young girl who seemed to have grown older while I was blundering around in my anti-depressant stupor. From the far and foggy recesses of my tired mind, I remembered better days, brighter times. I remembered being in control of my life, of enjoying simple things.
'Hell' hath no fury as Teddy Stadium is becalmed by Beitar fans ban
Beitar is a club whose fans have always had strong links to right-wing political groups and who have a deep distrust, and in some cases hatred, of the Arabs. Sakhnin is the one Arab club who have had success in recent years and their prominence in Israeli football has fuelled the rivalry." One man intimately acquainted with the rivalry is Abbas Suan. Suan was Sakhnin's talisman and captain until 2006, and led the team to victory through its most successful period - a stint in the top flight, silverwear in the form of the national cup and a brief foray into Europe. But he came to worldwide prominence after scoring the late, late equalising goal against Ireland in the qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup. The goal briefly kept Israeli's chances alive, transforming him overnight to a hero for all Israelis.
