Police in Albany are investigating a shooting that broke out over the weekend. Three young men were gunned down just outside of a "Sweet 16" party. All three victims are in their early 20's. Two of them were shot in their legs, and the third victim was shot in the face.

Revisiting our favorite holiday cookie recipes
It's one thing to win that coveted title of Top Chef. It's another when you're back to compete against the winners from past seasons, each eager to claim ultimate bragging rights.
So instead of looking for new reader recipes for Taste's annual reader cookie exchange this year, we decided to step back and savor the delicious fruits of the recent past. Just since the year 2000, we've vetted and tested our way through hundreds of solicited recipes to give you the goods on about 75 favorite holiday cookies. Of those, which ones sprung to mind to create a "best of the best" plate of cookies for 2007?
The catch, of course, was that we could pick only 10.

From the Scene: Strip Poker
Reuters reporter Emmy Dexel sends this from London. SOUNDBITE: PADDY POWER, ORGANISER, SAYING (English):
"It started off as an April Fool's joke. On April 1st, every year we send out a press release saying that we're gonna do something crazy. Like sometimes we're gonna paint a horse green in the Grand National but this year we pretended that we're gonna have a strip poker tournament and suddenly we were inundated with people calling in and asking how do we play, when is it on, how do we register and so we said we better do this for real. So four months later, here we are." SOUNDBITE: ANDREW, CONTESTANT, SAYING (English):
"Uhm, not too good actually in the strip poker stakes." HOW DID THIS HAPPEN "I think a run of cockiness, excuse the pun, and just a bad run of cards." SOUNDBITE: OLIVER, CONTESTANT, SAYING (English):
"Yeah, strip poker, yeah a little bit of strip poker here and there, but never on such a scale." (Q: How did that start, at parties?) "At parties, a few drinks and then get the poker going get the ladies round and then you know, it all happens from there." SOUNDBITE: JOHN, THE WINNER, SAYING (English):
"It's brilliant, I can't believe I'm in the Guinness Book of Records, I'm probably the hairiest poker player as well in the Guinness Book of Records." .

Squeeze's Effect Is Amplified On the Less Affluent
Motorists aren't waiting in long lines for gasoline. Consumers continue to spend. Affluent Americans remain barely affected. The U.S. economy has proven remarkably resilient during oil's rise to $100 a barrel. The last big surge, almost three decades ago, contributed to a moribund economy and tight times for many. Yet as the fourth year of rising fuel prices filters down to the pump, to grocery bills and to the thermostat, the cost is clearly starting to pinch some Americans. Gasoline prices lately -- now averaging about $3.05 for a gallon of the regular variety, according to federal data -- are near their highest since 1981, adjusted for inflation. Heating oil also is at historically high levels once adjusted. Many Americans have made only small changes -- meaning oil has room to climb before Americans take bigger steps.
