| Clinton Courts Hispanics For Crucial Super Tuesday
On Feb. 5, voters will choose among Democratic candidates in 23 states, including California, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. In California, whose 441 delegates to the Democratic convention account for 10% of the total, Latinos make up roughly a quarter of likely Democratic voters. "Feb. 5 is the firewall, and the Latino vote in California is the most important part of the firewall," says Sergio Bendixen, a political consultant from Miami who heads Mrs. Clinton's Latino strategy. "If she can win California, no matter what happens the race is on." In recent days, Mrs. Clinton's campaign has deployed Latino leaders to speak on her behalf in California and the Southwest. It is sending out mailers and starting phone banks to get out the Latino vote. California is shaping up as a player in a presidential contest for the first time in decades.
Battery tested: Dolphins face one of the state's best in Battery Creek ...
Hilton Head rebounded to down Berkeley High School 60-16. For Battery Creek, the match against Dutch Fork got off to a good start. John Perry rallied to win the 103-pound match, scoring a reversal and back points in the final 30 seconds of the match. Bobby Whitman (125 pounds), Tieler Schabbing (145), David Miller (160) and Tyler Ellis (189) all got wins for the Dolphins, but it wasn't enough to defeat a Silver Foxes squad that beat top-ranked Summerville earlier this week. "That was fun," Cox said. "It was a hard-fought match from beginning to end. Out of 14 weights, there were half of them that could have gone the other way. It was a good dual meet." Creek trailed by a point 23-22 to West-Oak at one point, but shut out the Warriors the rest of the match.

My last two homes in Chicago each had their own unique historical aspects, each an example of a classic style unique to that city's storied design past. My spacious condo in a circa 1904, six-unit apartment building, had a gracious, airy floor plan made for entertaining, with a split-parlor living room, beamed-ceilinged dining room and original windows throughout. My most recent home, in the city's famed Bungalow Belt, was one of about 80,000 brick houses built between the early 1910s and the late 1920s, in a collar around the city's outer borders. It had two layers of crown molding, 9-ft. ceilings and built-in, glass-door-fronted bookcases on either side of the ornamental fireplace. Both of these places had acres of full-grained oak trim, still with the original finish. Have you ever tried decorating with that much oak? There are, perhaps, three colors that go well with it, and I used variations of these dark, earthy, depressing hues over and over and over again.
