| Freeport students learn about construction
Saccamanno brought a class of about 23 students to tour the site Friday and learn about construction while also getting some hands-on experience with a saw and nail gun. This is cool for me because I want to become an architect some day, said 14-year-old Ruben Estrada, an eighth-grader. This will also help me if I ever want to build my own house one day. When the students arrived at the site, they each were given blueprints of the home and allowed to walk inside the wooden frame of the building. As they watched, the companys construction manager told them about the buildings design. Im only in eighth grade and I already know how to build a house, said Dillian Johnson, 13. He hopes to become an engineer. After the students were given a tour of the home, they were led outside, where the workers showed them the different tools and equipment they use and spoke to them about safety.
Vermilion River levels dropping; muddy mess left behind
He knew he had a lot of work ahead of him. After the water was pumped out, attention would turn to drying out the furnace and other equipment so the utilities could be restored.“Right now we've got to wait until we get her pumped out," Weber said. “It's going to take a long time to drain out."Then there would be the piles or ruined belongings, such as stored clothes, to deal with.“Everything down there is junk," he said. “It's floating around right now."Similar stories unfolded Friday across Pontiac as the Vermilion River receded from what may have been a record flood, leaving a muddy mess in its wake. As the water drained away, people moved in to clean up, assess damage and brace for the work ahead. At Washington Elementary School, meanwhile, district employees and volunteers hauled debris by the cartload to a commercial trash bin outside.
Audience spellbound by 'Wicked'
It felt more like a night on Broadway than a touring night in downtown Cincinnati. The short version: Ticket-holders wont be disappointed. Good cast, tight production, the same fantabulous costumes. And of course, whats not to love about the ultimate misunderstood outsider (The Wicked Witch of the West) who gets a sort of happily ever after by the time the curtain comes down? She even gets herself a best friend and manages to change some of her corner of the world for the better, in unexpected ways and not without sacrifice. .
Stayaway Reebok fans: What's the answer?
BOLTON Wanderers are banking on new boss Gary Megson delivering results that will lift them clear of the relegation zone and ease growing concerns over a dramatic drop in attendances. Crowd figures at the Reebok have slumped to a record low as the Whites have struggled at the wrong end of the Premiership. And, while they are considering a range of incentives to boost gates, they don't expect any significant improvement until the team starts climbing the table. "The stark reality is that the club is struggling on the pitch," commercial director, Gareth Moores, said. .
